Effectively using social media for business Part 1

An intensely debated topic these days is social media. It’s heavily relied upon in many larger business, but reasonably untouched in many small to medium sized business. This is understandable, because there is a considerable time and energy input required by this type of media. Also with so many social media sites it’s pretty hard to work out which ones are relevant for your business. Today, I’m going to have a look at some of the most important types of social media and explain what they are, and who they will benefit.

So let’s first look at the big guys

Everyone knows about it, and most people are on it. It’s a the overall social media king, and probably will be for a long time to come. Facebook let’s individuals connect, share news and stories, pictures and movies, create events, and complain about work colleagues. It’s also an incredible platform to promote your business.

You can create a facebook business page, showing everything about your business and allowing you to post updates on what’s happening. You can build a following by being interesting, and posting competitions to create involvement from others. I’d highly recommend doing a bit of research on the web regarding techniques, and check out https://www.facebook.com/business for some facebook business tips.

Hey what’re you doing right now!? Brushing your teeth? Neeto! Post it on twitter!

…Yep that’s some of the content you’ll find on there. It’s really about short phrases of words (140 characters or less) to convey some sort of relevant message to your “followers” (who by the way are not easy to create for business). If done right though, it can be a very effective business tool. Allowing you to post quick updates about what’s happening in your business, and keep your audience engaged and thinking about your brand (read more about creating a brand in my previous blog http://linkbookkeeping.com.au/blog/how-start-successful-small-business ) Also, if you want a great article on Twitter and how it can help your business,  check this out http://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/twitter-marketing-how-to-use-twitter-for-business/
